Best Excel course in Singapore for working adults: how to choose (2026)

Home › Course guides › Excel

This guide is published by Intellisoft. We run all of the courses recommended here. · Last updated 11 October 2026

Short answer: pick the course by your current level, not by the title. If you are new or self-taught, a 2-day Basic & Intermediate Excel course is the best starting point; with 70% WSQ/SkillsFuture funding the nett fee is about S$189 to S$195 including GST. If you already use formulas and PivotTables, go to Advanced Excel (3 days, S$292.50 nett at 70%). For automation, a 3-day Excel VBA course is the next step, and for large or messy data, Power Query and Power Pivot. If you only need a few functions, free tutorials are enough.

A level path: beginner to VBA and Power Query

  1. Beginner: Basic & Intermediate Excel. Formulas, functions, formatting, sorting, filtering, charts and PivotTables.
  2. Intermediate: Advanced Excel (lookups, logical and text functions, PivotTables, data validation, what-if tools, macros), optionally Dynamic Functions & Tools for XLOOKUP, FILTER and other modern functions. HR and payroll staff can take Excel for HR instead.
  3. Advanced analysis: Advanced Data Analytics and Data Visualization with Excel (dynamic arrays, what-if analysis, dashboard-style charts).
  4. Automation and data modelling: Excel VBA Software Design (macros, user forms, procedures) or Power Query & Power Pivot (clean and combine data, build data models and DAX measures). Choose VBA if you automate actions inside workbooks; choose Power Query if your pain is importing, cleaning and merging data.

What to check before you book

  • Funding. SSG-funded (WSQ or SkillsFuture-registered) courses carry a course reference starting with TGS. Singapore Citizens aged 40+ and SME-sponsored staff get 70% off the course fee; other eligible Citizens and PRs get 50%. SkillsFuture Credit, SFEC and UTAP can cover more of the balance.
  • Your Excel version. Dynamic-array functions (XLOOKUP, FILTER, UNIQUE, LET) need Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365. If your office still runs an older version, learn the classic functions first.
  • Level honesty. If you cannot yet write a SUM or build a PivotTable, start at the basic course. Jumping to VBA without solid formulas is the most common mistake.
  • Hands-on time. Look for courses where you work through real spreadsheets in class, not a lecture with demos.
  • Trainer. Ask who teaches and how learners rate them. Learners rate Intellisoft trainers 4.7/5.
  • Laptop and class times. Ask before you book whether a laptop is provided and what the class hours are.

Our recommendation: start with Basic & Intermediate Excel, then move up one level

Most working adults get the best return from one of the two entry courses, then a single step up when they hit the limits of what they know. All classes are held at Fortune Centre, 190 Middle Road (Bugis). Trainers are rated 4.7/5 by learners.

Other ways to learn Excel

  • Microsoft’s own Excel help and training pages: free and good for looking up a single function or feature. No trainer and no funding needed.
  • YouTube tutorials: free and plentiful, but quality varies and nobody checks your work. Fine for one-off questions.
  • Udemy, Coursera and LinkedIn Learning: self-paced video courses from overseas instructors. Cheap or subscription-based, but not eligible for SSG course-fee funding in Singapore and there is no one to answer questions on your own files.
