Short answer: if you are an SME owner, admin or accounts staff who has to run day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero (invoices, bills, bank reconciliation, GST and reports), a 2-day hands-on classroom course that is SkillsFuture/WSQ-funded is the most cost-effective way to get productive quickly. What to check before you book

  • Funding. SSG-funded (WSQ or SkillsFuture-registered) courses carry a course reference starting with TGS. Singapore Citizens aged 40+ and SME-sponsored staff get 70% off the course fee; other eligible Citizens and PRs get 50%. SkillsFuture Credit, SFEC and UTAP can cover more of the balance.
  • Hands-on time. Look for courses where you work through real transactions (sales invoices, supplier bills, bank feeds and reconciliation, a GST return) in class, not a lecture with demos.
  • Accounting knowledge. Xero does the bookkeeping mechanics, but you still need to know what a debit, a credit and a reconciliation are. Ask whether the course assumes accounting basics.
  • Singapore GST. Check that the course covers GST set-up and reporting the way it applies in Singapore, not a generic overseas example.
  • Laptop and class times. Ask whether you bring your own laptop and what hours the class runs.
  • Trainer. Ask who teaches and how learners rate them.

Other ways to learn Xero

  • Xero Central and Xero’s own certification (free, self-paced): Xero’s help centre, guided tutorials and certification route. Good for learning the interface and features at your own speed. No trainer to check your work, no funding needed, and it is not tailored to Singapore SME workflows.
  • Udemy, Coursera and LinkedIn Learning: self-paced video courses from overseas instructors. Cheap or subscription-based, but not eligible for SSG course-fee funding in Singapore and there is no one to check your work.
  • Your accountant or bookkeeper: if you only need your books set up once and reviewed each year, paying a professional may cost less than learning it yourself.

What is the best Xero course in Singapore?

For SME owners and accounts staff who need to do bookkeeping in Xero, Mastering Xero Accounting (16 hours, TGS-2023037874) covers invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation, GST and reports. If you only want to learn the software at your own pace, Xero Central is free.

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for a Xero course?

Yes, if the course is SSG-registered. Mastering Xero Accounting (TGS-2023037874) is. Singapore Citizens aged 25+ can use SkillsFuture Credit to pay the nett fee after funding.

How much does a Xero course cost in Singapore after funding?

For Mastering Xero Accounting: S$292.50 with 70% funding, S$442.50 with 50% funding, or S$817.50 without funding (all including GST).

Is Xero training worth it for an SME owner?

If you do your own invoicing, bills and bank reconciliation, yes: two days of guided practice usually beats piecing it together from videos, and mistakes in GST or reconciliation are costly later. If your accountant keeps the books and you only send invoices, Xero Central’s free tutorials are probably enough.

Is Xero’s free certification enough?

Can you train our whole team in-house?

Yes. Call +65 6252 5033 to arrange a private class for your company. SFEC can be used for company-sponsored training.
