Microsoft Copilot vs ChatGPT: which course should you take? (Singapore, 2026)

This guide is published by Intellisoft. We run several of the courses recommended here. · Last updated 16 October 2026

Short answer: it depends on whether your company has Microsoft 365 Copilot licences. If it does, take the 1-day Empower Your Workforce With Microsoft 365 Copilot Use Cases course, which costs S$292.50 after 70% funding or S$442.50 after 50% funding. If it does not, or you want to learn several tools, take the 2-day ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot & New AI Tools for Enhanced Productivity course, which is also S$292.50 after 70% funding. The skills overlap: writing good prompts and checking AI output carry over from one tool to the other.

Copilot vs ChatGPT: how they differ at work

Microsoft 365 Copilot ChatGPT
Where it works Inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams In a browser or app, as a separate assistant
What data it can use Your work emails, files and meetings, limited to what you are allowed to see What you type, paste or upload into the chat
Typical tasks Summarise a meeting, draft a reply, build a slide deck from a document, explain an Excel sheet Brainstorm, draft and rewrite text, research, analyse pasted data, explain ideas
Who pays and licence model Paid add-on to a Microsoft 365 plan, normally provided by your employer. A free Copilot Chat, grounded in web search, also exists Free and paid personal plans, plus business plans for teams
Data protection Enterprise data protection is a common reason companies choose it. Your IT team still controls access Depends on the plan. Check your company’s AI policy before pasting work data
Best for Staff in a company already on Microsoft 365 Individuals, small teams and anyone who wants a flexible assistant

Which should you or your company choose?

  • Your employer is rolling out Microsoft 365 Copilot. Learn Copilot first. You will use it daily in the apps you already open.
  • You have no Copilot licence. A general AI-tools course lets you practise on tools you can use today, including free ones.
  • You are a manager deciding for a team. Check licences, data policy and what your staff do all day. Heavy Word, Excel and Outlook users gain most from Copilot. Mixed or non-Microsoft teams may prefer a tool-agnostic course.
  • You want both. Many people use both. Start with the course that matches the tool you have access to.

What to check before you book

  • Funding. SSG-funded (WSQ or SkillsFuture-registered) courses carry a course reference starting with TGS. Singapore Citizens aged 40+ and SME-sponsored staff get 70% off the course fee; other eligible Citizens and PRs get 50%. SkillsFuture Credit, SFEC and UTAP can cover more of the balance.
  • Licences. Ask whether you will practise on the course’s accounts or need your own Copilot licence.
  • Hands-on time. Look for classes where you run real prompts on real documents, not a slide tour of features.
  • Company data. A good course covers what not to paste into an AI tool, and checking AI answers before you use them.
  • Trainer. Ask who teaches and how learners rate them.

Other ways to learn

  • Microsoft Learn and OpenAI help documentation (free guides from each maker): good for learning the interface and basic features. No trainer, no funding needed.
  • Udemy, Coursera and LinkedIn Learning: self-paced video courses from overseas instructors. Cheap or subscription-based, but not eligible for SSG course-fee funding in Singapore and there’s no one to check your work.

Frequently asked questions

Is Copilot better than ChatGPT for work?

Neither is better for everyone. Microsoft 365 Copilot is stronger if you live in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, because it works inside them and can use your work files and meetings. ChatGPT is a flexible general assistant that works well for drafting, research and brainstorming.

Do I need a Copilot licence to attend a Copilot course?

Not always. Ask the provider whether the class uses provided accounts or your own tenant. Microsoft 365 Copilot is normally an add-on that your employer buys, so confirm this before booking if you want to practise on your own work data.

Should my company train staff on Copilot or ChatGPT?

Train on the tool your company has approved. If you have Microsoft 365 Copilot licences, a Copilot use-cases course gets staff productive fastest. If you have no licences or no AI policy yet, a general AI-tools course is a safer start.

Can I learn ChatGPT and Copilot in one course?

Yes. ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot & New AI Tools for Enhanced Productivity (TGS-2024043430) is a 2-day course that covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and newer tools together. It costs S$292.50 after 70% funding.

Is Copilot safe to use with company data?

Companies often choose Microsoft 365 Copilot for its enterprise data protection, and it only uses what each user is already allowed to access. Your IT team should still check file permissions before rollout. Follow your company’s AI policy for any tool, including ChatGPT.

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for a Copilot or ChatGPT course?

Yes, if the course is SSG-registered. All three courses listed here carry TGS course references. Singapore Citizens aged 25+ can use SkillsFuture Credit to pay the nett fee after funding.

Can you train our whole team in-house?

Yes. Call +65 6250 3575 (Intellisoft Systems) or +65 6252 5033 (Intellisoft Training Pte Ltd) to arrange a private class for your company on Copilot, ChatGPT or both. SFEC can be used for company-sponsored training.
